Olubadan for burial Feb 12

Olufemi Atoyebi
The burial committee set up by the Oyo State Government has said the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade, will be buried at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Aremo on February 12.

The committee has the Head of Service, special advisers, permanent secretaries, representatives of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, representatives of the Olubadan-in-Council and representatives of the royal family and other government officials as members.
A statement by the committee on Monday, said the monarch’s burial ceremony would begin on Friday, February 5.
According to the burial plan, there will be a lying-in-state programme for the late monarch, who died on January 19 at the age of 101, on February 8 at Laduni Compound, Oja Igbo, Aremo and on February 10 at Mapo Hall.
The statement added, “There will be another lying-in-state for the remains of the monarch on February 11 at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan.
“On the same day, a Christian wake will hold at his Monatan palace while a funeral service and burial will hold on February 12.”
The committee refused to make a pronouncement on the court case instituted by Chief Bayo Oyediji of the Seriki family, challenging the Olubadan-in-Council’s choice of the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Saliu Adetunji as the late king’s successor, instead of himself as the next Olubadan.
It, however, said that enough arrangement had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free ceremony.
