In 2014, 15 Chibok girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity were awarded scholarship to attend the American University of Nigeria in Yola (AUN) by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
On Monday, February 8, Atiku took to his Twitter to share a photo of one of the students who is studying computer science at the AUN.
The girl is also a facilitator at TELA, which is an education project launched by the ex-vice president and sponsored by USAID to teach basic literary and numeracy to vulnerable children.
The vice president posted a photo and wrote an inspiring caption: “Education changes everything! She went from captivity to AUN, and is now volunteering to teach other children. This is great courage!”
Praising Atiku for his big heart and generosity, Nigerians called on him and other leaders to invest more in education.
While, Nigerian Air Force is doing everything possible to locate and rescue Chibok girls, one of the victims of the deadly Boko Haram sect has issued a stern warning to the federal government concerning the missing girls.
According to the woman, bringing back Chibok girls into the country may spell doom for Nigeria’s anti-terrorism stance.
“Young girls involved in suicide attacks in the last two years till date were the Chibok girls, it will be a waste of time for anyone to be talking of rescuing Chibok girls,” she noted.
